My last post was a little over a week ago and I wrote that Easton insisted on wearing pull-ups every day but was doing great on the potty. Well, the very next day after I wrote that, he was insistent on wearing big boy underwear. We haven't looked back since! It's been 10 days and he's only had 1 accident! woohoo!! I'd say he's officially potty trained at 2 1/2 years! I'd also say that's pretty good - especially for a boy! He still wears a diaper when he sleeps...but that'll come with time. This past week his daycare also talked to me about wanting to move him up to preschool already! whaaaaaaat? How did this happen? My "baby" is already going to preschool?? Holy smokes. This would be about 6 months earlier than he's supposed to but his teacher said that since he's potty trained and she said he's very mature for his age that they think he's ready. We're still thinking if we'll do it. It's probably a good thing because he'll learn so much and it will be more of a structured "school" day. I think I'm just hesitant because reality will set in that he's growing up so fast. But, it sure makes me proud to be his Mommy! I guess I also need to find out if he will get to take a nap. that is key. He plays so hard that he depends on that 2-3 hour nap every day or else we can pretty much count on a melt down (or 5 melt downs) at night! There are also new owners at this daycare and so far I have been very happy with all of the changes. They started a new curriculum which I think will be great and they have changed to a healthier menu and will be more willing to adapt it for Easton so he can eat dairy-free.
This past week Easton has also really taken a liking to playing baseball and he's REALLY good at it too. This is the only thing (sport),so far, that he will stick to and practice over and over again. He can hit the ball when we throw it to him and he's a slugger... he hits it further than Jake does (okay, maybe not quite... but for a 2 year old, it's amazing)!
He also came down with a doozy of a fever that lasted 3 days this past weekend... bummer it happened over the holiday weekend but I guess it's better than needing to take time off of work. Poor little guy has been sick so much this summer. He's had a horrible flu bug, HORRIBLE croup, and now this fever and rash. He has croup a very weeks ago and boy was it scary. He's had it before but never this bad. He's always just had the barking cough but this time he had an extremely difficult time breathing and it was so laborious with each breath he took so he wasn't able to sleep. We brought him to minute clinic first thing in the morning (because it was a Sunday)...the person we saw told us there was nothing to do for croup except wait it out. Well, we trusted him and went home and he breathing continued to get worse and worse and just sitting on the couch he couldn't catch his breath. So, we decided to head to urgent care. The doctor asked Easton to lift up his shirt and without hesitation he told us we need to go to the ER right away. Apparently his lungs we're being sucked in with each breath which meant his airway was closing so we needed to get him some help breathing. In the ER they ended up doing 2 nebulizers and we were there for a total of 6 hours! But it helped so much -- we did end up going back later in the week for another nebulizer because he still couldn't breathe very well when he was sleeping or if he did anything more than sitting still.
Hard to believe summer is already over! In addition to all the sickness we endured we were so busy with yard work (new patio, new landscape in the front, and a new sandbox for Easton), going away parties for friends, bachelorette parties, cabin time, weddings, guy trips (for Jake), birthday parties, etc. etc... but I guess that's what summer is all about! Hard to believe we never made it on the boat in Red Wing this summer but that's what happens when you have a 2 year old and a busy busy summer. Just another example of how life changes with children. We used to spend almost every weekend down there on the boat before Easton. Now we're just so busy making our memories with him. Wouldn't want it any other way though!! :) Maybe the weather will be extra nice in Sept. and we can sneak a boat ride in.
Some of Easton's favorite things to say lately are: "I NEED ______ (fill in the blank)." "Why?" "What's _____(fill in anyone's name) doooooin'" "wouldn't that be silly"
He can also count to 20, sing ABC's, knows all the colors, knows all shapes can tell you how old he is and when his birthday is. He can also identify a handful of letters when he sees them.
He's also pretty funny when we ask him what we do at work. "Mommy helps kids at school go down the slide and get off the bus." "Daddy fixes peoples computers." :)
Well, that's all for now. I'll put a few pictures up now and will post many, many more another day. Early morning tomorrow with work. I've been leaving by 6:50 in order to beat traffic. yuck.
It's not the best video but he's a little slugger!
