Can't believe it ... 5 months old already!

Getting to be such a big boy!

Easton is such a wild man - he is constantly on the go.  They call him, "Running Man" at daycare because no matter what he's doing those legs are always kicking!  Once he figures out the whole crawling thing we're going to be chasing him everywhere!  He's working sooo hard on trying to crawl.  He won't lay on his back anymore ... the second you put him on his back he rolls over to his stomach and moves those legs nonstop.  He's able to scoot himself around a bit but hasn't mastered the official crawl yet.  Once he started rolling over to his stomach Jake and I went out and bought a video monitor.  Not sure why we didn't get one of these right away - they're amazing!!!  Easton is also getting his legs stuck in-between the bars of his crib during the night because he moves so much - another reason for the video monitor.  I also just bought a breathable mesh bumper pad so hopefully that'll work and we won't have to worry about him breaking any limbs by getting them stuck!  He's also trying to get the hang of sitting.  He can sit for a couple seconds and then gets a little top heavy and topples over.  But, I think he'll figure it out in the next couple of weeks!  It's just so fun to watch all the new things he learns -Other than rolling over and sitting he has been reaching and grabbing for toys to play with (mainly so he can shove them in his mouth) and he loves to pinch people's noses (Jake and I have a few scratches on our faces to prove it!)  I also taught him how to stick his tongue out - it's hilarious!  He'll mimic you if you stick your tongue out at him - he'll do it right back!  :)

Baptism

We rescheduled Easton's Baptism for July 17th  - it was a great day!  Thanks to those of you who came to celebrate :)  My sister Mary and Jake's brother, Zach are Easton's Godparents - a big thanks to them for playing such an important role in Easton's life!  My Brother Jake, Mandy, Stella, Gretta and Grandpa Guth also brought up the gifts during Mass at his Baptism :)

"Say Ahhhh!"

Easton had his 4 month check-up on Thursday and his doctor was checking his eyes and ears and when she went to check his mouth he opened and said "ahhhh!"  It was hilarious!  The doctor couldn't believe it, she told me I should be sure to put that in his baby book!  Again she said he's more like a 6 month old than a 4 month old because of how active he is.  He managed to rip the paper off the table and by the time we left it was in a huge crumbled ball from all his kicking and moving around.  He's doing great though she said.  He's in the 60% for both weight (15 lbs 4 oz.)  and height (25 in.) and his noggin' is still in the 90th%!  I thought he was going to be higher for weight because he went through a big growth spurt after he was sick but turns out he's right on track!  We met his new friend Hudson over the weekend who is so tiny and cute and was only 7 days old so that also made him seem huge!  Easton is going to have lots of friends to play with - all of our friends have had or are having boys - it's going to be so much fun as they get older!  Trouble!!

He is talking our ears off lately and just continues to be a mover and a shaker!  Every night when he wakes up he's completely turned around in his crib with his head pressed up against the bars!  So, even in his sleep he's a wild man!  He's trying so hard to crawl during tummy time and has seemed to master the reverse army crawl (he lays on his back and scoots himself around).

In other news, Jake got to be one of the lucky state employees who gets to keep working during the shutdown so we're extremely grateful for that!  :)

Father's Day, a canceled Baptism, and a nasty virus!

We were really looking forward to this weekend with Easton getting Baptized and Jake's first Father's Day.  However, late Friday night we realized plans were probably going to change.  When Jake was feeding Easton before bed he puked up an entire 6 ounce bottle!  We thought it might have been because of his reflux and didn't think much of it and he went to sleep as usual.  Then he woke up at 11:30 (which was unusual for him) and the poor lil guy had puked again all over himself and his sheets and this continued all night. :(  We took turns staying up and holding him all night and he also was getting dehydrated which was making us really nervous and by early Saturday morning, diarrhea had set in as well.  We called the doctor and they said to bring him in right away.  We were at the clinic for 3 hours as they needed to hydrate him and they were trying to determine if he had a nasty virus or pyloric stenosis, which is a condition that blocks food from getting to the intestines, and this has the same symptoms as the virus he has which was projectile vomiting and dehydration.  He ended up not keeping anything down at the doctors office so we were sent to the hospital to get an ultrasound of his tummy to see if he had this Pyloric Stenosis which requires immediate surgery (boy were we nervous and really praying he didn't have to have surgery).  Thank goodness the ultrasound showed that everything was fine which proved he just got a nasty virus (probably from daycare...but I won't get started on how I feel about daycare...let's just say he's had 2 weeks of daycare and had a cold the first week and now this. ugh).  Anyways, Easton is on the mend and beginning to feel MUCH better but we did end up canceling his baptism which was scheduled for Saturday evening because the doctor said he was very contagious and we just wanted him to have a low key day and be able to rest.  We're very sorry to those who planned on coming for the last minute change of plans, thank you for being so understanding!

Now on to Father's Day...  Easton is sooooo lucky to have such a great Daddy, you can tell Easton just loves him so much!  And I know Jake loves being his Daddy too and he's so darn good at it!  :)  What a wonderful blessing he is to us!  We went to 2nd Swing today and Jake picked out a new golf club for his Father's Day present and then we went out for lunch.

3 months!!!

I can't believe Easton is already 3 months old - he is growing up so fast!  I think every day Jake and I notice something new he's able to do!  He continues to roll over when he's on his stomach during tummy time but has yet to roll over from his back (which I'm totally fine with...less to worry about when he's sleeping!) :)  He's able to reach out and grab onto things now and just loves any opportunity to kick his legs!  If he's not a hockey player he just might be a swimmer because he also looooves bath time and kicking in the bath!

This past week was my first day back to work and Easton's first week of daycare!  Wow, was that ever tough!  Thankfully Grandma Cathy is able to come up and watch him on Wednesdays and I am able to work Mon-Thursday many weeks this summer so he'll only need to be at daycare 3 days a week.  But he did do pretty good his first week.  The  first 2 days he didn't sleep much (maybe an hour total the entire time he was there).  He would just crash for 3 hours when he'd get home and slept almost the entire day my Mom watched him.  I suppose he was a little unsure about his surroundings at daycare and wanted to keep those eyes open as much as possible!  His teachers talk about how good of a baby he is and how happy he is every time I pick him up - That makes me feel a little better about bringing him to a strange place every week.  Jake and I think he already has a girlfriend too.  Every time I would pick him up a little girl would follow me and say "bye bye Easton" and 'pet' him before we left.  He's quite the ladies man!  ;)

Easton went on his first boat ride last weekend too.  If you know the Hemmah's, you know that he'll be doing a lot of boating in his life!  He did great - we were on Grandma and Grandpa Hemmah's boat so he was able to stay cool and in the shade for the day but he loved the breeze in his face and watching the water!

Big Week!

10 weeks was a big week for Easton (and the parents)!  He slept through the night for the first time ever!!  But of course Jake and I woke up to check on him a couple of times anyways ;)   He also rolled over for the first time but Jake and I BOTH MISSED IT!  I couldn't believe it!  He was doing tummy time and I looked up to see if there was a burp rag on the couch and when I looked back at him a second later he was on his back!!  He's getting to be such a big boy -- so excited for all the fun we're going to have with him as he keeps getting bigger!

Oh and Mandy also introduced me to garage sales in the rich neighborhoods of Stillwater last week ... lets just say his wardrobe practically doubled!  :)

                                                           

2 months old!

Easton is 2 months old (yesterday!)  Wow, where does the time go?  He had his 2 month check up yesterday - wish someone would have warned me how terrible the 2 month shots are!  I felt soooo bad.  It was the first time I've seen him cry with tears...my heart was breaking!  His doctor said he is doing great and couldn't believe how active he is.  She said he's as active as a 6 month old...not a 2 month old!  He now weighs 12 lbs 6 oz which puts him in the 70th percentile and about 23 inches long which is about 30th percentile and his head is in the 90th percentile!  Someday it'll all balance out :-) 


We had a little scare about 2 weeks ago.  During tummy time I noticed a spot on the back of his head sticking out and I felt it and it was like a big fluid bubble.  And of course I start freaking out and googling everything that it might be and convinced myself that he had meningitis and was practically out the door to the ER within minutes but then I decided I should call the doctor first who calmed me down and told me she was almost certain it wasn't that.  But we brought him in and they said they'd never seen anything like that before so they wanted to do a CT scan to make sure the fluid wasn't leaking into the brain.  THANKFULLY it wasn't and the "bubble" is starting to get smaller now.  They think it's from all the trauma to his head when I was in labor and he tried his hardest to come out for 20 hours ( he had a similar spot when he was born so they think it just came back for some reason...should be gone in a few weeks!)

My first Mother's Day was WONDERFUL!!!!  Jake and Easton sure did spoil me.  They gave me a beautiful ring with Easton's birthstone and cooked me a steak dinner on Saturday evening and breakfast Sunday morning.  Couldn't have asked for anything better - I love my guys! :)

For your entertainment...a few examples of how sleep deprived I've been:
1.  I left the hot water running for 6 hours downstairs and couldn't figure out why we didn't have hot water all day so I called Jake at work to tell him our hot water heater is broken only to discover hours later that the water had been running all this time ... OOPS
2.  I woke up the other night rubbing Jake's head thinking I was soothing Easton back to sleep
3.  Almost every night I wake up and throw the blankets off the bed thinking Easton is somewhere under the covers!
 4. I have found myself numerous times going into his room in the middle of the night to feed/change him and pick him up only to discover he's sound asleep and that I must have been dreaming the crying.
5.  Woke up rocking a pillow in the middle of the night thinking I was holding Easton and rocking him back to sleep.  I'm losing it!
