Making progress!!!

Easton slept half the night (4 hours straight) in his crib last night!  That's the longest he's ever slept in his crib for.  woohoo!  I decided we better start crib training this week before he gets too used to sleeping in his car seat every night. We're off to a good start - I hope it continues to improve all week!

We had a great, but exhausting, Easter weekend.  On Saturday we made the trip down to Marshall to celebrate Easter with the Guth family.  It was so fun to have Easton meet Great Grandma Guth and the rest of the Guth clan!  We spent 7 hours in the car driving that day.  Easton did great and slept the whole way there and back.  Mom and Dad on the other hand were sooo tired!  Especially since when we got home at 10:30 Easton was ready to party for another 2 hours since he just took a 3.5 hour nap on the way home!  Then on Sunday we headed down to Red Wing to celebrate Easter with the Hemmah's. Overall it was a great weekend and I think Jake and I have finally started to recover from the lack of sleep! 

I can't believe my maternity leave is already half over! :(  So sad!! I am just dreading the day I have to bring Easton to daycare.  Makes me cry just thinking about it.  12 weeks at home is not long enough to spend time with my little guy - it's so not fair that some stranger at day care will get to spend all day hanging out with him.  Hopefully the weather will start to cooperate so I can enjoy the last 6 weeks with him outside a little more!

I just love watching him change from day to day!  Especially since he's smiling and laughing so much more now.

1 Month Old

I can not believe that Easton is already a month old!  The days go by so quickly now - it sure is true when people say being a Mom is a full time job (and the best job)!   I am just in awe of how much he has changed in the past couple of weeks.  He is so alert now and getting so strong and loves to play with his gymini! 

Jake's family had a baby shower for Easton last weekend.  We had a great time!  It was also great that he was able to meet most of the family and family friends! :) 

Bedtime is still a challenge for us.  He had a few really good nights and then the last 2 weeks he's been in pain whenever he eats which gets worse at night.  I finally took him to the doctor last week and they said he has acid reflux so I'm hoping that with medication it'll help soothe his tummy and he'll be able to relax more and sleep better at night.  He's still sleeping in his car seat at night - we're able to get him to sleep in his crib for about a 20 minute nap and then he's had enough.  Anyone have any tips on getting them to sleep in their crib at night?

It's also crazy how little time Jake and I get to spend together now-a-days!  When he gets home from work we make dinner, get Easton ready for bed and then we're usually so tired we just go to bed too.  Especially since we know we'll be up numerous times throughout the night!  Weekends are definitely something I look forward to bc I get to spend all day with both of my guys! ;)

We are still getting lots of visitors and we're so thankful for everything!  Easton is one lucky kiddo to have so many great people in his life.  :)

First week at home

Well, we've officially been home from the hospital for one week!  I think I can speak for Jake and say that being a parent is pretty amazing - Even with the lack of sleep!

We want to thank everyone SO MUCH for all of gifts, meals, and visits we've received in the last week.  We are truly so grateful.  I think Jake especially appreciated the food since I can't go up and down stairs (and can't get to the kitchen) he's been in charge of all the meals.  He's done a great job of taking care of me and Easton while I try and recover as quickly as possible. 

Easton Updates:

1. He sure is a good eater - when we left the hospital he weighed 7lbs 2 ounces and we had a nurse come to the house 3 days later and he already weighed 7lbs 11 ounces!  
2. He still has his days and nights mixed up so it's been quite the challenge to try and keep him up during the day.  He also won't sleep in his crib - it's such a big space for his little body that whenever he moves he startles himself awake.  So, we've been having him sleep in his car seat which seems to be working wonderfully.  We're going to slowly get him used to the crib with naps throughout the day and using a woombie to keep him nice and snug!

Easton Thomas Hemmah is finally here. He didn't come without a fight. Katy's water broke around 9:00am on Tuesday morning (3/8). I received a call regarding the exciting news and left work right away. When I got home Katy had called the hospital and they said that we needed to come in. We packed up our gear and headed to the hospital. We settled into the hospital around 10:30am and Katy was examined. They had advised us that we were staying and having a baby today! How excited were we!!! How wrong were they. :( Katy pretty much started having contractions right away. She did it without any medication until about 4pm. At 4pm she had to have an epidural as the contractions were extremely painful. At that time she was about 3cm dilated as well. It was not until about 1am on Wednesday that she was dilated to 6cm. It was extremely painful getting there. Every couple hours Katy had to have a "booster" pain medication as the epidural was not working to well. Being that Katy was 6cm dilated the expectation was that the final 4 cm would go much quicker. Unfortunately that was not the case. Again Katy was a trooper and fought through the pains and would be checked every hour or two to see what progress was being made. She was not moving though. She stayed at 6/7cm dilation until about 4:30am and that is when it was decided a C-Section would have to be done. Katy was ready to get Easton out. She fought a tough fight and we are very proud of her. We got into the operating room at about 5:15am on Wednesday and Easton was born at 5:42am! Still, he did not come without a fight. From Katy being in labor for so long, Easton was down and lodged in there. The Doctor had to muscle him out of there. At one point he was leaning all the way onto Katy's face trying to get leverage. Finally he was tugged out of there! Katy did wonderful through the entire pregnancy and C-Section. I am very proud of her. We tried getting some sleep at about 9am on Wednesday but the excitement of Easton was to much. Neither Katy or I could sleep much. We appreciate everybody's love and support we have received. And I am extremely proud of Katy! She was quite the trooper! Oh and of course Easton peed on me the first chance he had!!!

Stats:

Easton is 7lbs 14ounces. He measured at 20.5 inches. He has a descent amount of hair on him as well. There appears to be a mullet in the works!

11 days and counting...

Well, it seems as though my doctor can't make up her mind.  Yesterday she told me she thought baby was around 7lbs.  I asked if she still thinks he's "rather large" and she told me that he doesn't feel like he'll be a big baby.  So, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.  I'm really hoping we don't have to wait much longer though - we're both so ready to meet our little (or big) guy!  The Doctor also said she'd sweep my membranes on Wednesday if I don't have him before then to see if things will start moving along!  In the meantime, I'll be doing a lot of walking and eating a lot of pineapple and spicy food! 

Thanks for all your votes for the baby name!  When our Niece, Stella, was asked what the name of her Cousin should be, she said, "Michael Buble."  Yes, she's 3 years old and knows all the words to the song, "I Just Haven't Met You Yet."  :-)

Hopefully the next update will be the arrival of Baby Hemmah!

26 more days!

Even though we still have 26 days until our due date it seems like Baby Hemmah is taking his sweet time arriving into this world.  We are starting to become very impatient!  The doctor told me this morning that she thinks he weighs around 6 lbs and told me that she thinks he's "rather large."  Not quite what a first time mom wants to hear before giving birth!  But, maybe that means he'll come early.  Yup, that's just what I'm going to keep telling myself.  :)
